Buddha Dhamma is the fruit of an intensive search conducted over a long period of time by a noble prince, whose heart compassionately opened and extended to embrace, support and guide all suffering beings. This supreme flower of humankind is none other than Gautama, the Buddha, who lived and taught in India in the 6th and 5th centuries BCE. So inspiring and pragmatic are his teachings that a fifth of the world’s population today devotedly follows them.
Buddhism contains a kaleidoscope of traditions, each arising from different interpretations by the various philosophical schools and presentations of the three Yanas, manifesting the Dhamma in multi-faceted ways that reflect the enormous diversity of needs and spiritual capacities of its practitioners.
